A vacation to Maui is unlike any other vacation for most travelers because Maui is literally paradise. Visiting Maui has changed many people for the better, and if you plan to visit you won’t be disappointed.
There are a few things you should know before planning your trip to Maui.
First, Maui, like most Hawaiian islands there is a dry side of the island and a wet rainy side of the island. Typically the southern side of the island and a little bit of the western side of the island tend to be more arid climates with very little annual rainfall and this makes for some gorgeous sunny relaxing days.
Take note that the north coast of the island is rainy and much more lush and tropical however rain is not always considered a bad thing. What happens specifically on the rainy side is that the downpours happen pretty much on a daily basis, and they don’t last forever, in fact, many times you could set your clock to expected rainfall. In between the times when it’s raining it’s actually sunny and bright and the air is so fresh and clean.
Second, one thing that everyone who visits Hawaii, no matter the island, needs to know is that there is a spirit of aloha that everyone abides by. The concept of aloha is a gracious and warm attitude that is open and sincere to all, and visitors to the island tend to catch on very quickly. To the best of their abilities, they take on the qualities of their native hosts.
Third, Maui is world-renowned for epic family vacations and in Hawaii, you’re going to have fun on any of the islands. One thing many families who travel to Hawaii for vacation do is set up the itinerary and activities and places to stay with a travel agent. Usually, the people who are constantly dealing with travel to Hawaii are the ones that know best about how to take advantage of all the splendor and fun to be had.
Many couples and families including small groups are arranging with companies on the mainland who have connections on the island. These guide companies have been there before and know where to send people to have a great time.
Many people are interested in adventure travel and Maui could be one of the top destinations, that is if one likes to have an adventure in a beautiful setting.
Fourth, there is one place that people are pretty much guaranteed to see giant sea turtles munching on seaweed growing on the large rocks along where the water touches the shore. It is possible to get up close with these gentle giants. It is located on the north side of Maui island. The spot you want to go to is Ho’okipa Beach Park. It is a spacious state park and windsurfing spot filled with White sand beach picnic areas and an overlook to see amazing sea turtles.
Fifth, for food one can’t go wrong with a cut coconut and some shave ice, but to truly get the Hawaiian experience there are some local establishments that have been around for a while and developed a reputation for amazing seafood and local cuisine.
Probably the best hack for food is to go to the grocery store back to the back deli counter and marvel at the wondrous variety of poké. There are usually at least a dozen poké recipes to choose from. Many times the fish is just as fresh and just as delicious as what can be found in the expensive sushi houses that are nearby, which are also top notch.
There definitely are big differences between a deli tub of poké and fatty tuna sashimi as most can say but Maui can be done on a budget and you can still enjoy the local flavors.
Sixth, one restaurant is in Lahaina on Maui and it’s called Kimo’s. It is a relaxed seafood spot with harbor views and features local seafood prime rib and famous hula pie dessert.
If the menu includes grilled octopus do you not hesitate but tell you our server you would like to try it because once you do you’ll never look at a full octopus arm again without thinking how delicious it looks.
Indeed the seafood is unbeatable as the Islanders who are surrounded by the sea have learned to cook some of the most interesting dishes.
Seventh, the other must-go-to place is in Kihei and is appropriately called the Kihei Caffé. And this is literally the best place to get Moco Loco on the entire Island. If you are not familiar with this dish, it can be eaten for any meal during the day but makes for an excellent breakfast at this café.
The town Kihei itself is much more relaxed and low key than Lahaina, it has a residential feel. It makes for a perfect laid-back location to hang at. However no matter where are stay on the island of Maui it will feel amazing, you will feel at once relaxed, and you’ll feel like you never want to go home again.
